One of my favourite mid-century design trends is the fabulously kitsch 'Tiki Modern' tropical imagery that was especially popular in Southern California in the 1960s. Coinciding with both the Vietnam war and the release of copyright on exotic floral and fauna imagery that had become popular in Victorian times, it was seen everywhere in the booming suburbs of LA and the casinos of Vegas. As soon as I saw the gorgeous pastel colors in this month's palette for BYOC ('Build your own collection') at The Lilypad I was inspired, and I don't think I have never had as much fun designing a collection before.
