Snapped and Scrapped: Rocky Horror


The writer of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Richard O'Brien, who also played the character Riff-Raff spent much of his youth in New Zealand and it was while working at the Embassy Theatre in Hamilton that he came up with the idea for the Rocky Horror Show.

The movie theatre has since been demolished, but on the site there is a statue commemorating O'Brien (who chose to hold his honorary New Zealand citizenship ceremony in Hamilton)

And it happens to be right next door to where my parent had their famous junk shop for many years.

There's even a Riff-Raff webcam (although last time I looked it needed a bit of a clean!)
